The winners of the 2013 WNPA (Washington Newspaper Publishers Association) contest were announced and Sound Publishing, Inc. secured 215 awards. 73 of those were 1st place, including the coveted General Excellence!

  • General Excellence 1st place: South Whidbey Record (Group II) and Whidbey Examiner (Group I)
  • General Excellence 2nd place: Federal Way Mirror (Group IV) and Islands’ Sounder (Group I)
  • General Excellence 3rd place: Central Kitsap Reporter (Group IV)

The Daily Herald, in Everett, received awards recently in the C.B. Blethen Memorial Awards for distinguished newspaper reporting at the Pacific Northwest Newspaper Association convention. Noah Haglund and Scott North were recognized with a 1st place for Investigative Reporting. Erick Stevick won 1st place and Gaile Fiege received 2nd place for Feature Writing.

Nationally, Sound was recognized by LMA (Local Media Association) for Best Layout & Design (2nd place – desktop and mobile, all classes combined).
